Facial care is quite often a topic of discussion, either among family and friends or in our online interactions. However, as in many things, so in the case of skincare, various myths are circulated and transmitted which, in addition to being untrue, can sometimes cause us harm. And since our face and its care are of the utmost importance, we need to distinguish the truth from the lie.
We will talk about some common myths regarding facial care as well as the truths hiding behind them. To be able to take better care of your skin and not fall into daily “traps”, below you will learn what really applies to various skincare cases.
#1 You will cause acne to your face if you don’t wash it
Acne is created because of oil production, bacteria, clogged pores, inflammation, as well as hormones and sometimes even diet and stress. Not washing your face alone cannot cause acne. But if you have acne, not cleaning your face surely doesn’t help the situation. At this point we would like to emphasize the importance of cleansing and how necessary it is to wash our face both morning and night.
#2 Eye creams don’t offer anything
The choice of your eye cream needs to be made specifically for your own personal needs. If you define your needs correctly, then you will be able to find the most suitable product for you, with the ingredients that will really be able to help you. Whether the problem is dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles or hydration, there are ideal ingredients that will bring you results.
#3 Sunscreen and multiple myths
There are a lot of myths concerning the sunscreen such as: If it’s not summer, or if I don’t go outside, I don’t need sunscreen – If I wear waterproof sunscreen it lasts all day – If I already have tanned skin I need less or no protection. Of course, all of these are myths. Our sunscreen needs to have high protection, be renewed every 2 to 3 hours and be used by everyone without exception.
#4 Oily skin does not need hydration
All skin types need hydration. If you don’t moisturize your oily skin, your skin’s natural reaction will be to secrete more oil to regain its lost moisture. However, your moisturizer should be non-comedogenic in order to provide you hydration without clogging your pores.
#5 Lips do not burn in the sun
Just like our skin, our lips are burned and damaged by the sun’s UV rays as well. Therefore, in addition to your sunscreen, make sure the lip balm you use contains SPF to protect them from the negative effects of the sun.
#6 Men do not need hydration
Let’s say it again to reinforce it: Hydration is essential for everyone. Both men and women’s skin needs hydration to stay healthy and to prevent dryness, clogged pores and oiliness.
